Dear colleagues and friends,
I am very pleased to inform you that the 6th Lily Laskine International Harp Competition will take place from September 13-20, 2008 organized by the Concours Internationaux de la Ville de Paris. It is the first time the Competition is taking place in this new venue, a tribute to the hard work of many who have worked tirelessly these last few years to bring the harp, and this event to Paris – a city where it naturally belongs. We are delighted that the competition will take place along side the world-renowned Jean-Pierre Rampal Flute Competition, which will showcase the beauty of these two instruments to wider audiences.
The fact that the ACDA (Association pour la Création et la Diffusion Artistique), has selected the Lily Laskine Competition to be included in the calendar of the Concours Internationaux de la Ville de Paris is indeed, a tribute to the Competition’s history and Lily Laskine’s remarkable legacy.
Salvi Harps, as the main sponsor of the Lily Laskine Competiton, is proud that this competition will now be added to the roster of other great French music competitions sponsored by the ACDA honoring among others: Etienne Vatelot, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Martial Solal, Maurice Andre and Oliver Messinen. We are honored to be associated with an organization long identified with presenting music competitions of such high artistic and cultural value.
In addition, we have recently been notified that the competition has also been designated as a member of the World Federation of the International Contests of Music. We are thrilled by this news; it brings additional prestigious recognition to the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition.
I enthusiastically urge you to support this years Lily Laskine Competition in Paris and join me in spreading the word far and wide to encourage others to attend. I feel confident it will be memorable for the harpists competing ... and for those of us fortunate to be there.
